MAKING A HOUSE A HOME

Here at Second Chance Chichester we collect excellent furniture, furnishings and white goods that are no longer needed from offices and residences and give them a second chance in new homes with people who appreciate them. This serves three important purposes:

  1. We assist people who are on a low income and may have difficulties getting good furniture to make their house a home.
  2. We prevent good quality items from ending up in landfill, damaging the planet and going to waste.
  3. The Chichester Crafters also repair, restore and upcycle furniture to high standards

VISITS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY

Outside of scheduled appointments no one is based at the warehouse so please only come to visit when we invite you.

We support individuals and families who are referred to us by our partners. If you like something in stock but have never been in touch with us before it’s a good idea to contact the Supporting You team at Chichester District Council, who may be able to organise a formal referral to us.

An appointment is made and people can choose the items they require by browsing the website and the warehouse. There is a free delivery service. Stonepillow primarily assist rough sleepers.

A Message From Our Founder, Richard Plowman

“I believe we are making a real difference to peoples’ lives and wellbeing here in Chichester

“Second Chance Chichester is the successor to the successful Mayor’s Hardship Fund which as Mayor of Chichester at the time, I set up during the Covid-19 pandemic and used to help some 70 people in desperate need and crisis. However with inflation, the cost of living crisis, higher mortgage rates and doubling of the use of the Foodbank, the need for support is even greater today. There appears to be a gap in the support available for those who are being re-housed into empty properties with no resources for furniture or soft furnishings. Here at Second Chance Chichester we want to tackle that.”

“Following a successful partnership agreement with Lyndsey Parslow of Business2Schools, Second Chance Chichester has a regular supply of high quality furniture, IT and white goods from office refurbishments which we can provide to the public, saving it from going to landfill and giving it a second life.

A major private donation meant we could cover the first year’s operation of the building in Leigh Road. Second Chance Chichester was born and we opened in March 2023.  Since then we haven’t stopped.

I am really grateful for all the support we have had from many individuals and organisations. This means there is no charge for our services. Thank you. I believe we are making a real difference to peoples’ lives and wellbeing here in Chichester and I look forward to continuing to do so.”

From the Supporting You Group at Chichester District Council

“We have been using the service for just under a year now and have made many referrals to Second Chance Chichester, for support with furniture, for some of our most vulnerable clients. The service has been very effective, and the communication with our team has been fantastic. The support which Richard and his team offer has been delivered in a welcoming and non-judgmental manner and our clients have greatly benefited from this. We hope the much-needed support from Second Chance Chichester will be able to continue and we look forward to working with them going forward.”
